PAY ATTENTION: NOT ASHWAGANDHADI.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a tall plant with purple or green leaves and red fruits. It is one of the most used herbs in Ayurveda and has been used as an Ayurvedic herb for thousands of years. Ashwagandha is also known as "Indian Ginseng" or "winter cherry". Ashwagandha has even been referred to as a royal herb due to its versatile uses. Ashwagandha grows in India, but also in other areas of Asia, Africa and the Mediterranean.
Ashwagandha has an adaptogenic effect on the body. Adaptogens ensure that physiological processes in our body are stabilized and that homeostasis is promoted. This means that the body's ability to keep the internal environment stable is supported, while the individual's external environment is constantly changing. Our cells (building blocks of the body) are therefore less sensitive to stress factors from our external environment, so that our body and mind can remain in better balance.
Ashwagandha has a Vata and Kapha lowering effect on the dosha's (constitution) of a person.
Evidence for the health effect is still being assessed in the European authorization procedure.
