Ajowan (Ptychotis ajowan) is a common herb in India. Ptychotis ajowan is part of the lace-cap family. That means that Ajowan / Ajwain is related to caraway and cumin. The oval-shaped seeds have a strong aroma. In the kitchen, the seeds are therefore used in moderation in dishes. Ajowan is a warming herb. Ajwain has a Pitta-enhancing effect on the dosha's (constitution) of a person. In addition, it has a lowering effect on Vata and Kapha. It removes ama and strengthens Prana (life energy).
